XTA Expands Successful 4 Series with Addition of DP426

XTA Expands Successful 4 Series with Addition of DP426

British DSP manufacturer XTA Electronics has announced the latest addition to their very successful 4 Series - the DP426. The DP426 is a 2-in, 6-out audio management tool that has been introduced in direct response to demand from customers following the demise of the extremely popular DP226 and is ideally suited to stereo three-way applications.

XTA sales and marketing director Bill Woods commented: "Our flagship DP448 has been adopted by contractors and touring companies worldwide, as have the DP446, DP444 and DP424. However, we had not really filled the gap left in our range when we discontinued the classic DP226. Although companies use the 4 Series for all sorts of applications, it seems that the good old 2-in, 6-out speaker processor configuration for stereo three-way set ups just won't go away, hence the addition of the DP426!"

The DP426 shares exactly the same features as all the other models in the 4 Series including 28 band graphic EQ and 8 bands of fully parametric EQ on the inputs, 9 bands of fully parametric EQ on the outputs, crossover filters, which offer various slopes from 6dB/Octave to 48dB/Octave, delay, limiting and Audiocore remote control.

Crown Audio Breaks Power/DSP Barrier with I-Tech HD Series Amplifiers

Crown Audio Breaks Power/DSP Barrier with I-Tech HD Series Amplifiers

In an introduction that dramatically resets expectations of what a professional-grade touring amplifier should deliver in terms of performance, processing, integration and ease of use, Crown Audio introduced the new I-Tech HD Series at the recent NAMM Show. This has been meticulously engineered to advance every criteria by which an amplifier is judged.

At its core, I-Tech HD features a new user-inspired DSP engine co-developed with BSS Audio and Linear Phase FIR filters that offer unrivalled performance.

Together with Crown's Class-I amplifier technology, new software that makes I-Tech HD robust and easy to configure, an industry-leading choice of input options including CobraNet and the all-new LevelMax limiters (Peak, Thermal and RMS), I-Tech HD is a stunning product of engineering R&D, embracing more than 60 years of amplifier heritage and systematic user input from tour sound leaders in all markets.

"I-Tech HD, our new flagship amplifier, advances the state-of-the-art on no less than seven fronts," said Mark Graham, president of Crown Audio. "A remarkable achievement in engineering, I-Tech HD Series is a destructive technology in the sense that it obsoletes all that came before it.  It's a worthy testament to Crown's engineering team and the tour sound professionals around the world who helped with the development."

Developed in conjunction with sister company BSS Audio, the next generation OmniDriveHD DSP engine at the heart of I-Tech HD is built on a new architecture specifically optimised for fast and efficient audio processing to provide tour and contracting professionals with a new platform for signal processing. The new Firewall FIR filter technology provides significantly improved midrange clarity and dramatically improved off-axis response. The OmniDrive HD reduces latency, safeguards sonic integrity and advances system reliability. AudioCore features 24- bit, 192 kHz A/D and D/A converters.

In yet another industry first, Crown's innovative LevelMax limiter technology links the previously independent Peak, Thermal and RMS Limiters, enabling more effective, elegant protection of connected speakers while advancing system performance. LevelMax limiter actions are better informed for more effective, efficient results and minimal sonic degradation.

Crown I-Tech HD benefits from the software R&D firepower of Harman Professional's System Development & Integration Group (SDIG) and is easily configured via HiQnet System Architect Software. The user interface has been completely redesigned. Managing large networks of amplifiers on the road has never been easier. System Architect mirrors the typical browser navigation interface to provide tour sound and contracting professionals with a familiar interface to access a host of power configuration and control functions. System Architect includes context-sensitive, alphanumeric keypads, which pop up automatically with relevant parameter units when a value or text entry box is selected with the stylus.

Further simplifying ease of use, Crown I-Tech HD Series features a road-warrior-inspired front panel USB slot for load and recall of amplifier settings. Chief engineers can simply hand pre-loaded USB keys to entry-level staff who can now quickly, cost-efficiently and accurately configure entire racks by inserting the correct key and pressing the load button. A patent-pending intuitive front panel work surface with LCD display provides fast and easy menu-based system setup and full amplifier diagnostics.

Crown Audio's commitment to networking and interoperability goes beyond the USB slot. I-Tech HD boasts a category-leading arsenal of standard input options including CobraNet, AES/EBU and analogue XLR inputs, allowing distribution of many channels of real-time, high quality digital audio for a vast array of touring and contracting applications.

Protected by a rugged 2U chassis, the I-Tech HD weighs in at a lightweight 30 lbs. (13 kg.) but its proven, Class-I output design packs a heavyweight punch to deliver massive amounts of power while generating minimal heat.  Crown Audio's patented Power Factor Correction (PFC) techniques allow I-Tech HD to draw current from the mains more efficiently, which in concert with the Class-I output enables I-Tech HD to provide the highest output voltage available and a clearly audible difference driving high-performance loudspeakers.

QSC Introduces ILA v2

QSC Introduces ILA v2

QSC has introduced its new ILA (Installation Line Array) v2 system. Representing the second generation design of the lightweight, compact line array, ILA v2 comes to end-users as a turnkey package including dedicated full-range and subwoofer loudspeaker components, processing, amplification, and suspension accessories. Ideally suited for nightclubs, ballrooms, performing arts facilities, houses of worship, or any other venue seeking premium sound and professional quality, ILA v2 is as accessible as it is affordable, asking little in terms of setup and deployment.

"One of the main reasons for developing ILA v2 is to make true line array performance accessible in a far broader range of applications," QSC VP of marketing Gerry Tschetter says, explaining the underlying goal driving the product introduction. "Most line array systems today are manufactured for the touring sound market, which means that overall, system costs lie well beyond the means of many facilities that could gain direct benefits from the technology. By focusing on fixed installation needs with a moulded enclosure and simplified rigging scheme, QSC has driven costs down while retaining the sound quality, coverage, and acoustic output of touring line array systems."

With ILA v2's SC28 system controller, setup by an expert using sophisticated acoustical measurement equipment isn't required. Offering simple preset recall processing built expressly to optimise ILA v2 and other QSC loudspeakers, the SC28 is easy to use, and offers audio quality so good that it's been included on major concert tours. Part of the power behind this combination of simplicity and performance is QSC's proprietary Intrinsic Correction circuitry, which compensates for inherent transducer, waveguide magnitude, and time-based  anomalies to produce performance marked with excellent power response, and natural, uncoloured sound across its entire bandwidth and area of coverage.

With power provided by QSC's rugged and reliable RMX Series amplifiers, every ILA v2 system relies upon line array elements equipped with a pair of  neodymium magnet, 8-inch diameter, low frequency drivers. While both of these woofers produce low frequencies, only one covers the midrange, thereby resulting in more uniform directivity in the crossover region. For high frequencies, a pair of 1.75-inch (voice coil diameter) neodymium compression drivers with titanium domes are mounted on a multiple aperture diffraction waveguide that provides extremely wide coverage (140º). As a result, an ILA v2  system will rarely require additional side or centre fill speakers, and solid stereo imaging is preserved across the listening area.

An upgraded subwoofer - the WL118-sw - is also offered with ILA v2 systems. A single 18-inch version of QSC's GP218-sw touring subwoofer, the WL118-sw  offers impressive punch and low frequency extension. Using only three RMX 5050 amplifiers and a single RMX 2450HD, a pair of ILA v2 arrays incorporating six full-range line array enclosures and a pair of subwoofers can easily be powered with ample headroom to burn.

Rigging for ILA v2 systems is simple, flexible and safe, providing a 10:1 design factor with 12 full-range cabinets in the array. Each array is assembled with the included bolts. The relative angle between adjacent boxes is adjustable in 1º increments for precise tailoring of vertical coverage. For those preferring quick- release pins to the bolts, an optional kit of four quick-release pins (QRP-KIT-1) is available.
ILA v2 subwoofers may be suspended at the top of an array using QSC's standard FP2082-i array frame. When trim height is limited, the subs may be suspended behind the array using an available extension bar (model EB2082-i).

As an aid to determining the array position and box-to-box splay angles in any ILA v2 system, EASE Focus software can be downloaded free from QSC's website. For installations in which the subwoofers are groundstacked, the GP118-sw offers identical performance but omits the ILA v2-compatible suspension hardware.

MILOS Launches New Screen Support System

MILOS Launches New Screen Support System

Trussing manufacturer MILOS has launched a new free-standing LED screen support system, with an impressive weight loading of 2.5 tonnes, offering a maximum 7 metre span and heights of up to 7 metres.

This is in response to the proliferation of screens in use everywhere at all types of events. MILOS sales manager Jiří Brůza comments: "We spotted a gap in the market for a very sturdy and quick assembly screen support structure which can be built anywhere without consuming vast amounts of floor space."

The tower element of the goal-post shaped Screen Support system is made up from MILOS's MT2 aluminium trussing tower product, topped with their MT3 sleeve block. Each leg is stabilised by two adjustable feet, making a very tidy footprint. The span of the Screen Support is made from MILOS M950 trussing, the latest and largest of their current QuickTruss range. It's designed for maximum loading and free-span applications, utilizing MILOS' own QuickTruss connection technology for extremely quick and secure assembly. The support spans can be pre-rigged at ground level and then pulled up the tower by motors rigged within the two ends of the M950 span.

The MT3 Sleeve Blocks are made from a combination of aluminium and steel, for maximum strength with tough aluminium profiles that are connected with steel components. The block is specifically for the connection of QuickTruss M950 elements.

The MT2 Tower was originally developed to be used in conjunction with the MILOS M400 and M520 trussing systems and it's also a basic support unit for the  MILOS MR3 Series Roof systems, so it has a very robust and tried-and-tested track record. Each MT2 tower can support up to 2 tonnes and be built to a height of 12.5 metres, but the optimum height for the Screen Support system has been calculated at 7 metres.

All components are manufactured by the team at MILOS main facility in the Czech Republic, using the highest specification materials, including 60 x 6 mm main tubes and 32 x 3mm bracing spars for the M950 trussing. The latest techniques are used to maintain the standards of excellence for which MILOS is renowned.

QSC Launches New CSM Series

QSC Launches New CSM Series

QSC's new CSM Series stage monitors represent the latest additions to the California-based manufacturer's catalogue of premium concert sound products.

The CSM Series comprises three models: the CSM10, CSM12, and CSM15. As the model numbers in the product group imply, the loudspeakers are respectively equipped with 10, 12, and 15-inch woofers. At the high-end, within each of the horn-loaded, two-way cabinets, compression drivers outfitted with neodymium magnet structures, three-inch voice coils, and 1.4-inch exits can be found.

High power output, clean, transparent sound, and rugged reliability are central to CSM Series performance, along with a number of distinctive features like user-adjustable pattern control of the high frequency section, which facilitates changes in the vertical plane from asymmetrical coverage spanning a total of 100 degrees to a fully symmetrical 150 degrees. Working in combination with each CSM Series cabinet's tight, narrow coverage of 50 degrees in the horizontal plane, the asymmetrical vertical pattern is ideally suited for stage monitor use to keep spill into the house at a minimum, while the symmetrical choice makes each enclosure capable of serving double-duty as a frontfill, downfill, or other full-range device when used with a special yoke.

Beyond user-adjustable pattern control, hardware internal to each cabinet and the simple press of a button facilitates the release of a pair of aluminium legs that offer added upstage tilt available from 0-15 degrees in one-degree increments.

Keeping cable connections out from under foot and tucked neatly away out-of-sight, a recessed pocket on the bottom of each cabinet houses a pair of Neutrik Speakon NL4 connectors, as well as a switch for selecting passive or biamped operation.

Sold in packages, including BASIS processing supporting different numbers of mixes, every CSM Series cabinet is made using 15-ply birch. Finished in black, the enclosures additionally sport heavy-duty perforated steel grilles.

Patent Issued to J. R. Clancy for SureGrip Rope

Patent Issued to J. R. Clancy for SureGrip Rope

The US Patent Office has issued patent 7,461,500 to J. R. Clancy for a ‘System for Determining Wear to Rigging System Lines', more commonly known as SureGrip rope. This is the only theatrical rope with a wear indicator, to tell users when the rope should be replaced.

SureGrip was developed by J.R. Clancy specifically to address the safety concerns of worn hand lines. Excessive wear is indicated by a "telltale" red thread woven into the rope - when red threads are visible, it's time to replace the line.

"Theatre safety is important to us," said Bob Theis, president of J. R. Clancy, "and the development of SureGrip is part of our ongoing work to reduce risk backstage."

In addition to the patented wear indicator, the rope contains an identifying ribbon with Clancy's name, contact information, and year of manufacture. A pair of "Clancy green" marker threads on the exterior of the rope indicates that it's Clancy's SureGrip.

SureGrip is available in 3/4" diameter in either white or black and has a breaking strength of 10,000 pounds; more than double that of manila line. The familiar 3-strand twist construction is traditional in rigging hand lines. However, unlike the traditional manila rope, its synthetic blend resists rot or stretch from environmental factors such as heat or humidity.

SureGrip is available exclusively through J. R. Clancy dealers, worldwide.

Mojo Barriers Launch Gatekeeper

Mojo Barriers Launch Gatekeeper

The international crowd safety barrier specialist Mojo Barriers celebrated 21 years of business at the Event Show last week with the international launch of an innovative new product, Gatekeeper.

Gatekeeper is a smart turnstile system with proprietary software, designed to improve crowd safety at events. By counting the number of people entering and leaving a controlled event area through multiple exits, it monitors and automatically controls the capacity in real time.

"Gatekeeper meets a longstanding demand of promoters and public event organisers everywhere in the world," said Patrick Jordan, managing director of Mojo Barriers. "Until now, there has been no way of measuring the exact size of a crowd entering or leaving a public space through many different gates. Gatekeeper can keep track of the number of people in any controlled space, allowing organisers to prevent overcrowding even at a free, ticketless event."

In addition, the company has also merged with the established London-based company Marathon Barriers, which specialises in pedestrian barrier and rope and pole facilities for "red carpet" events.

"Marathon enhances Mojo Barriers' ability to provide a wider range of barriers and crowd control facility in the UK," says Patrick Jordan. "We are excited about the possibilities the new purchase affords us in this market."

City Theatrical Launches Two New LED Products

City Theatrical Launches Two New LED Products

City Theatrical has released two new LED products utilising Philips Color Kinetics LED lighting fixtures combined with innovative City Theatrical technology to produce new, never before seen lighting products.

The MasterBlast utilises a Philips Color Kinetics ColorBlast 12 TR LED lighting fixture combined with CTI's patented SHoW DMX wireless DMX technology to create a totally wireless, battery powered, LED lighting fixture with up to 10 hours of operating time.   The MasterBlast's built-in stand alone routines and wireless DMX allow events to be run without a lighting console, external wireless DMX gear, or power and data cables, saving time, space, and money for the event lighting user.

The MasterBlast's user interface allows any MasterBlast to be configured as either a Transmitter or Receiver, as well as selecting a variety of stand alone routines and radio settings. The user interface also provides a built in battery gauge. A convenient carry handle allows users to simply carry the MasterBlast into a room, set it down, and begin lighting. The rugged Philips Color Kinetics ColorBlast 12 TR lighting fixture utilised in the MasterBlast features a swing down front that permits City Theatrical's unbreakable polycarbonate holographic lenses to create a wide variety of symmetric and asymmetric beam spreads to meet most lighting needs.

The MasterBlast utilises a DMX output that in Transmit mode allows the same show being broadcast wirelessly to be output via wired DMX to other City Theatrical power/data supplies such as the PDS-750 TR and PDS-375 TR. That feature enables users to combine their existing ColorBlast fixtures into large wired/wireless systems all receiving their commands from a MasterBlast Transmitter, and all running the same show without an external lighting console.

The combination of bright RGB LEDs from Philips Color Kinetics and SHoW DMX wireless DMX and control from City Theatrical gives event lighting users a wide range of new options in their lighting while saving them time and money.

The iW Blast TR Lighting Kit combines the Philips Color Kinetics iW Blast 12 TR lighting fixture with a range of unique City Theatrical accessories enabling film, video, photography, and location lighting users for the first time gain all the benefits of this very bright, variable color temperature, white LED lighting fixture. The inherent low power consumption of LEDs also gives users more options in both line voltage and battery powered lighting setups.

CTI has created a two channel controller that gives users control of color temperature and intensity right on the lighting stand.  These Controllers are universal voltage for worldwide use and have a built in clamp to allow attachment to any lighting stand.

The iW Blast TR Lighting Kit comes complete with three iW Blast 12 TR lighting fixtures, and a three full sets of accessories including controllers, stands, mounts, barndoors, egg crate louvers and nine different symmetric and asymmetric unbreakable polycarbonate holographic lenses. Everything packs into and is protected by a rugged ATA flight case.

Both the MasterBlast and iW Blast TR Lighting Kit are ETL, cETL, and CE listed, are RoHS compliant and are available through City Theatrical distributors worldwide.

Artistic Licence Re-Designs Cata-Lynx

Artistic Licence has launched a redeveloped version of its popular Cata-Lynx DMX512 to Art-Net converter.

"The original Artistic Licence Cata-Lynx converter was initially designed just as a handy widget," explains Artistic Licence technical director, Simon Hobday, "but since its release it has proved very popular, especially amongst those needing to bridge the gap between lighting and video control technology.

"However, with the new Art-Net technology Artistic Licence has been developing, re-designing the Cata-Lynx range means that the product will benefit from many of the new features seen in Data-Lynx, while retaining the high specification and functionality of the original Cata-Lynx."

The result is a choice of two products in a standard 1U Rack Unit: the Cata-Lynx I/P and the Cata-Lynx O/P. Cata-Lynx I/P is a rack mounted DMX512 to Art-Net Ethernet converter with two universes.

It is aimed specifically at the light and video convergence market for use with media servers providing a cost effective and elegant method to remote control any Art-Net compliant media server, including High End Systems Catalyst and Green Hippo Hippotizer. It can also be used with Art-Net compliant visualisation software such as Cast Lighting's WYSIWYG and Design & Drafting's LD Assistant.

Cata-Lynx O/P has been designed at the request of Artistic Licence customers who need to convert Art-Net to DMX512 plus RDM functionality, all contained within a 1U rack-mounted format. Cata-Lynx O/P sends Art-Net to two DMX512/RDM Universes. Each Universe output has a ‘built-in splitter' allowing two DMX connections for each universe. This ‘built-in' functionality, using two female XLR connectors, reduces the need for adding additional splitters within a Rack-Mounted system.

Both Artistic Licence Cata-Lynx units are designed with all data cable entries at the front of the product, including DMX512 connections via 5-pin XLR's and a latching network connection via Ethercon. The front panel also displays LED indicators for Ethernet and Art-Net/DMX status, and three hexadecimal switches to determine Sub-Net, Universe A and Universe B selection.

Configuration for both units is carried out by simply selecting the required universe / sub-net using the front panel wheels. Alternatively, the product can be remotely configured using the free of charge DMX-Workshop software via the network or the internal web-server.

Universal mains input for both Cata-Lynx O/P and Cata-Lynx I/P is via an IEC connector located on the rear of the unit. Housed in a 1U rack mount unit they can live and tour quite happily in a standard dimmer rack.

"We see our Cata-Lynx units as the means by which the Artistic Licence Art-Net range continues to extend into rack mountable format." explains Hobday, "They provide the ideal solution for designers who want to house all their main Art-Net to DMX-converted control systems in rack installations."

Allen & Heath Launches Entry Level Xone DJ Mixer

Allen & Heath Launches Entry Level Xone DJ Mixer

Allen & Heath has unveiled the Xone:22, a 2 channel analogue DJ mixer offering high quality audio and a professional feature set at an entry level price. The smallest and most affordable Xone mixer to date, the Xone:22 is equipped with Allen & Heath's characteristic sound and build quality, and professional grade features that would normally be found in the booth of a top-rated club.

At the heart of the feature set is a lite version of the renowned analogue Voltage Control Filter (VCF) system offering Low-Pass and High-Pass filters, frequency sweep and ‘mild to wild' resonance control. There is also a soft switched effects loop to bring in external effects, which are routed back in through the filter system.

The new mixer has 2 stereo channels with dual phono/line inputs, and phonos can be configured to line if no RIAA sources are in use. There is a 3-band total kill EQ, crossfader curve control switch, and the maximum output level is a generous +25dBu.

The main mix output and mic input are on professional standard balanced XLR's, and there is a dedicated record output. The Xone:22 is equipped with comprehensive monitoring facilities, including a booth output with its own volume control, a cue mix control, and ‘cue-to-master' switch to preview the master output. There are also 10-segment LED meters with selectable bar or dot mode display for each channel.

"We've raised the bar on entry level mixer design with the Xone:22. It's the first mixer at this price point to have a full cut isolator/EQ, accurate metering, quality faders and pro standard audio headroom. Incorporating a "lite" version of our now legendary Xone filter system is the icing on the cake," explains Xone designer, Andy Rigby-Jones. "We want to offer the bedroom DJ a quality performance tool and a taste of the professional club experience."

To complete the club quality effect, the Xone:22 is finished with UV sensitive ink screen for improved low light legibility.

Xone:22 will be available from March 2009.

Allen & Heath Launches Compact Digital Mixing System

Allen & Heath Launches Compact Digital Mixing System

Allen & Heath has launched a new compact digital mixing system. Evolved from the successful flagship iLive digital range, the iLive-T Series has all the performance and power of the original iLive in a new lightweight, affordable package.

The T Series comprises the fixed I/O iDR-32 and iDR-48 MixRacks and iLive-T80 and iLive-T112 Surface options with remote CAT5 connection. Each rack can be used with either control surface, and all models will be compatible with the existing iLive units.

"The T Series has been developed using proven digital technology from our flagship iLive professional range. It has flexible audio architecture, with configurable buses, patching, control and FX, and offers the same processing power, DSP algorithms and functionality. We are thrilled to be able to deliver the same stunning audio performance in a smaller footprint at a fraction of the price, and open up digital technology to a new audience," explains Allen & Heath MD, Glenn Rogers.

Using iLive's 64x32 RackExtra DSP mix engine, both T Series racks provide processing for 64 channels, 32 mixes, plus 8 stereo FX processors. The systems feature the latest dualcore DSP technology, handling full dynamics, EQ and delay for all signals, which ensures, for example, that each of the 32 mixes has a dedicated third octave graphic EQ as well as a parametric EQ available.

The iDR-32 MixRack provides 32 mic/line inputs and 16 outputs in a compact 4U frame, while the 6U iDR-48 provides 48 mic/line inputs and 24 outputs. The iLive-T80 and iLive-T112 surfaces add a further 8 in/8 out and 16 in/12 out respectively, and when combined with the mixracks, provide the ideal capacity for typical PA applications with 40 in/24 out to 64 in/36 out systems.

Key to the development of the T Series is the proprietary Allen & Heath ACE (Audio Control Ethernet) link, which allows cost effective long distance point to point control and audio connection between the rack and surface using a single CAT5 cable. An option slot allows further audio networking possibilities such as EtherSound, or in the future, MADI and Aviom interfaces, while a built-in network switch and MIDI ports at each end allow remote control using laptops, touch tablets and MIDI devices. The T Series is compatible with the Allen & Heath PL Series remote controllers and iLive Editor software, a JAVA-based program that enables set up and control of the system online and offline.

The T Series surfaces feature the same iLive fader strip layout with 4 layers per bank, and colour assignable channel ID strip. Above is the large, instant access channel processing section with familiar analogue style controls that quickly help the new user feel at home with digital mixing. A built-in touch screen provides an additional graphical view of the processing and access to the memories and system configuration. All its settings can be transferred using USB.

The T Series will be available from February 2009.
