Ayrton Cobra used for “75 Years of Lower Saxony” celebrations in Hannover
Ayrton supplied producer and lighting designer Jens Hillenkötter with its latest luminaire, the laser-sourced, IP65 rated Cobra, for the celebrations of “75 Years of Lower Saxony” in Hannover, Germany. Postponed from 2021, Niedersachsen Day celebrated the 75th anniversary of Lower Saxony and culminated in an evening spectacular at the waterside location Maschsee.
“Maschsee is a very large outdoor waterside area with the capacity for 50,000-80,000 spectators. I therefore needed fixtures that were IP65 rated - as I never use domes - to cope with the waterside environment”, explains Hillenkötter. “It’s quite complicated to do a show on water and was extremely difficult to find crew and equipment - especially if it’s IP65 rated - in this post-pandemic age, which put a little extra pressure on us.”
Hillenkötter chose to use forty Ayrton Cobras as his main fixtures to light the Grand Finale of the evening which included lighting, video, music, drones and fireworks. “We sited the Cobras very close to the water on nine floating platforms and used them to backlight the water screens with gobos, colour and movement for added dynamism”, says Hillenkötter. “I also used the Cobra to produce beams that swept the sky.” The Cobras - working in changeable weather conditions and with, at times, thick smoke from fireworks - had to project over a distance of 300 m.
