Polish sports academy upgrades multi-purpose hall with Electro-Voice and Dynacord

For over 100 years, the Krakow Academy of Physical Education (AWF) has specialized in training teachers, coaches and physiotherapists. A recent upgrade at the facility has resulted in a fully modernized sports hall featuring a sound system from Electro-Voice and Dynacord.

The hall is the largest of all the sports facilities on the campus and can host crowds of up to 500 spectators. In addition to being a teaching space, it also hosts volleyball, handball, basketball and soccer matches for local teams. The hall had not undergone and major renovations since the 1970s, so a comprehensive modernization was required for the space to meet modern safety regulations as well as the needs of its users.

The sound system formed a critical part of the upgrade process. The solution needed to meet the everyday educational requirements of AWF and also make the hall suitable to host sporting events, business meetings and conferences. Shadock AV, the system integrator tasked with the project, turned to local Electro-Voice and Dynacord partner Audio Plus to find the best equipment for the space.

At the heart of the system is a Dynacord IPX10:8 amplifier which eliminates the need for additional processors. The IPX10:8 amplifier features eight channels with a total power capacity of 10 kW, sharing up to 2,000 watts per channel. From the amplifier itself, the AWF team has access to all the tools necessary for the configuration, tuning and operation, due to the Sonicue Sound System Software. Sonicue was used during the installation process to set up the system and also provides control and monitoring of the audio solution in action.

The amplifier drives seventeen Electro-Voice EVC-1152-64B speakers as the main system. To ensure even coverage around the entire hall, Shadok AV created frames especially for this project, enabling the suspension of loudspeakers and setting the appropriate angles.

One of the major concerns for the project was energy efficiency. Due to EcoRail technology, the IPX10:8 amplifier can reduce power consumption by up to fifty percent. A further challenge came with the historic nature of AWF. The hall is under conservation supervision, meaning that the fabric of the building could not be altered by the project. This led to a sympathetic installation of the new equipment, alongside sensitive acoustic adaptions to the walls and ceiling.
