Recent Vatican events powered by K-array’s Firenze system
Event technology specialists Agorà won the European tender for the construction of an audio and video distribution system intended for the 2025 Jubilee celebrations in St. Peter’s Square, Rome. Following the death of Pope Francis, the system was also used for the solemn funeral, the proclamation of “Habemus Papam” and the subsequent inauguration events of Pope Leo XIV, with an estimated participation of between 60,000 and 150,000 people.
In the tender notice, the customer expressly requested visually discreet solutions for both the support structures and the audio system, indicating the K-array Firenze KH7 loudspeaker as a specific reference. The installation, which remained operational for almost two months, served two main areas.
Zone 1 included Via della Conciliazione, Piazza Pia, Piazza Pio XII and part of Lungotevere Castello, with a total area of approximately 28,000 sqm and a maximum length of 700 metres. In this area, twelve towers were installed, approximately ten metres high, and each equipped with five K-array KH7 speakers and the related K-array KS7 subwoofers.
Zone 2 included Via di Porta Angelica and Piazza Risorgimento, with a total area of approximately 18,000 sqm and a maximum length of 300 metres. Here, four towers were installed, also approximately ten metres high, with five KH7 and the related KS7 subwoofers.
KH7 and KS7 were powered by Kommander KA208+ amplifiers, controlled through a double fibre optic network (primary and secondary), used to simultaneously transport audio, video and control signals. In total, the system consisted of eighty KH7, forty KS7 and sixty-five Kommander KA208+ amplifiers from K-array.
The audio project was designed by Daniele Tramontani and Valerio Motta, with the coordination of Alessandro Cerroni and Laura Garofolo, and the contribution of the entire Agorà team. Italstage took care of the structures, while Coop Insieme provided operational support for the crew.
The support of K-array was fundamental, in particular Matteo Barbaro, Klaus Hausherr, Daniele Mochi and the Research & Development team, under the guidance of Alessandro Tatini (co-founder and CEO of K-array).
