Wharfedale Pro delivers audio for 14,000 Tolkien enthusiasts
From June 12 to 15, the German Tolkien Society hosted the four-day “Tolkien Tage 2025” festival in Geldern, Germany. A total of 14,000 Tolkien fans and fantasy enthusiasts enjoyed a varied programme, including a concert evening featuring diverse artists and ensembles. Technical audio production was handled by Rockline Sound & Light from Issum, who deployed an extensively scaled Wharfedale Pro system to cover the broad musical programme.
The demands on the system were considerable. Initially, the Wharfedale Pro system needed to cleanly amplify classical ensembles with diverse acoustic instruments - from strings, acoustic guitars, and flutes, to various vocal performances. Later in the evening, volume and power were crucial for the headline performance as the medieval metal band Feuerschwanz delivered an energetic set featuring a pyro and fire show.
The low-end frequencies were managed by a subwoofer array that included fifteen WLA-218BX dual-18’’ subwoofers (cardioid configuration), twelve WLA-121 subwoofers (end-fire configuration), and seven WLA-112 elements (infill and outfill loudspeakers). The main system, which was provided by Spirit Of Sound Veranstaltungstechnik, featured eight flown Wharfedale Pro WLA-312X line-array elements per side. This setup was equipped with dual 12’’, 10’’, and dual 2.55’’ drivers. The system was powered and managed by twelve DP-4100F amplifiers, twelve DP-2200F amplifiers, and four XC-44F controllers (managing additional amplifiers), also from Wharfedale Pro.
“The Wharfedale Pro system delivered an outstanding performance, convincing the event organisers to once again entrust us with the audio production for ‘Tolkien Tage 2026’”, says Stefan Kosmalla, Managing Director of Rockline Sound & Light. “We’re particularly pleased with the positive feedback from guest sound engineers, and I must highlight the excellent support from IAD GmbH, the German distributor for Wharfedale Pro.”
